針對美國對台高關稅課徵，台灣民眾黨發表中英文版聲明。 ------------ Early this morning, U.S. President @realDonald Trump announced a 10% base tariff on countries worldwide, with Taiwan among those facing higher rates. Ranked seventh, Taiwan will be hit with a substantial 32% tariff despite TSMC‘s recent major investments in the United States. Should these tariffs take effect, Taiwan, as an export-driven economy, will undoubtedly suffer a severe impact. While the high-tech sector has already been pressured to invest in the U.S., the potential relocation of traditional industries such as automotive components—for which the U.S. is the primary export market—, could further exacerbate the risk of industrial hollowing-out. The Taiwan People's Party urges the government to engage in immediate tariff negotiations with the United States to secure reductions or exemptions on mutually beneficial terms. Additionally, it is crucial to fast-track comprehensive social and economic resilience strategies—including industrial transformation, employment stability, and price regulation—to bolster Taiwan’s position amid uncertainty and prevent it from becoming a casualty of global economic competition.
