Bring Democracy Back to Taiwan: A Call to Action Against One-Party Domination
Let us stand united against the growing shadow of authoritarianism. It is time to reclaim democracy—not the version dictated by the Democratic Progressive Party(DPP), but the democracy the people of Taiwan truly deserve. Where the ruling party falls short, the opposition will rise. Where the DPP hesitates, we will move forward—resolving conflict, restoring justice, and renewing the spirit of our nation.
Today's Opposition Leaders Summit, jointly attended by Chairman Huang Kuo-chang(黃國昌) of the Taiwan People's Party(TPP) and Chairman Eric Chu(朱立倫) of the Chinese Nationalist Party(KMT), marks not an end, but a new beginning. Focusing on the themes of the Impact of U.S. High Tariffs on Taiwan and Defending Judicial Justice and Democracy, this summit serves as a rallying point for all who refuse to let Taiwan drift further into authoritarian rule.
•Addressing Tariffs: Launching a Civil-Led Impact Assessment Platform
As the economic storm intensifies, the DPP has shown indifference to the mounting crisis. The government's failure to conduct a comprehensive tariff impact assessment is both negligent and unacceptable. In response, the TPP and KMT will jointly establish a Civil-Led Impact Assessment Platform.
Led by former National Taiwan University(NTU) president Kuan Chung-ming(管中閔) as convener, and supported by key local leaders including Chiang Wan-an(蔣萬安), Hou You-yi(侯友宜), Simon Chang(張善政), and Lu Shiow-yen(盧秀燕), this platform will include voices from labor, industry, and academia to create a transparent and inclusive framework to protect Taiwan's economic resilience.
•Defending Judicial Integrity: Transparency as a Shield Against Abuse
When even Ko Wen-je(柯文哲), a former presidential candidate, can be detained, who among us is safe? The DPP has repeatedly weaponized state institutions, launching raids on both the TPP and KMT offices. This is no longer a partisan issue—this is a national crisis.
To safeguard the rule of law, the opposition jointly proposes two legislative reforms:
1.The Judicial Integrity Act of Perverting the course of justice
2.Live Streaming of Court Proceedings for High-Profile Cases
Only by shining light into the dark corners of power can we expose and eliminate abuse. Today it's Ko Wen-je; tomorrow it could be anyone.(今日柯文哲,明日任何人)"
•Cabinet Reshuffling Is Not the Solution: Restraining Autocracy Is
Replacing a single figure like Cho Jung-tai(卓榮泰) will not fix the underlying issue. The true challenge lies in restraining President William Lai's creeping autocracy. The opposition must leverage every oversight mechanism within the legislature to stop the DPP from bypassing public accountability.
Losing a parliamentary(Legislative Yuan) election must never be an excuse to overturn the democratic process. Our collective mission is to unite civil society and preserve Taiwan's democratic foundation—regardless of political affiliation.
•Judicial Persecution Is a Daily Reality: We Must Stand Together
The judicial harassment faced by the KMT today is the same endured daily by the TPP. Taiwan's democracy, freedom, and rule of law—hard-won by generations of citizens—must not be sacrificed for the interests of any single party or leader.
Our pursuit of judicial reform is not for Ko Wen-je alone—it is for every Taiwanese citizen who believes in justice. As former Chairman Ko once declared in court: "This land is deserving of our collective commitment. Let us work together."(這塊土地還值得我們共同努力,讓我們一起共同努力)
For the People, For Taiwan: Action Is in Our DNA
The Taiwan People's Party has always put national interest before personal or party interest. When the government fails to ensure fair competition, stifles innovation, and uses the judiciary as a political weapon, it fails not only the constitution—but every citizen.
We will not remain silent. We will not retreat. As the DPP attempts to erode our freedoms, we will rise—undaunted, united, and determined.
Today is not a comma, but a starting point.
With courage, we will navigate through this darkness. With conviction, we will carve a path toward light. And with action, we will restore hope—for our country, for our land, and for all the people of Taiwan.

Today, TPP Chair Huang Kuo-chang and @kuomintang Chair Eric Chu attended the Opposition Leaders Summit, addressing the growing impact of U.S. tariffs on Taiwan and the urgent need to uphold justice and defend democracy. Together, we want to remind the ruling party: the people’s voice is the truest form of democracy.
Four key objectives:
Launch a civil-led impact assessment on U.S. tariffs
Propose joint amendments to enable court live streaming and establish an obstruction of justice law
A no-confidence vote alone won’t save Taiwan, we must devise plans to curb Lai Ching-te’s authoritarianism
Opposition parties must unite to push forward meaningful legal reform
As Taiwan confronts unprecedented challenges, we must set aside our differences, stand united, and fight for the future of our people.
